My Weekend
This evening I arrived home after traveling to Cheyenne, Wyoming for a debate tournament. We stayed in the most despicable, nasty, disgusting hotel I have ever seen. As we pulled up upon it we realized this was an adventure we would never forget. On the outside it looks like something you would rent by the hour. Once you step in your impression only deepens. As soon as we opened the door we saw the mural. There was a gigantic mural of an oak tree on the wall. The other wall had “wood” paneling. The room was tiny and the only heater we could locate was in the bathroom and it was an exposed coil heater. We were afraid to turn it on for fear it would start the entire hotel on fire (which would only have been a blessing.) Besides all of the physical problems the hotel had there were also major plumbing problems. The first one we noticed was the toilet. It barely had enough power to flush. When you turned on the sink to wash your hands it sounded like a motorboat was backfiring. Even with all of these plumbing disasters we still had hope for the hotel. We woke up at 5:30 am to shower (there were four teenage girls in the room and the bus was going to leave at 7:30 am.) I was to be the first to shower. In my “morning state,” I turned on the water and waited for it to warm up. It didn’t. I tried the other handle, and the cold only increased. There was absolutely NO HOT WATER! What were we to do? We frantically called the boy’s room. They weren’t happy about being woken up at 5:30 am, but they were nice enough to check and see if they had hot water. Of course they had hot water. So, one by one each of us used their shower. Amazingly that one shower had enough hot water for eight teenagers to shower, and we all made it to the bus on time. It was one heck of a weekend.
