Italian Movie
I've spoken before about the movie that my Danish class sent to our "exchange students" in Italy. We dressed up in funny ways and stood in front of the classroom and told them things about Denmark and ourselves. We had four groups and each group was given six minutes. The total length of our movie then was around 24 minutes. It wasn't professional work, but it was slightly entertaining and we were informational.
Today we received a movie back from the Italian students. We were excited and figured it would be sort of like ours. Not in the slightest! The movie started out with two of the students talking outside of a basketball stadium. We couldn't hear what they were saying because of passing cars and the wind. Then they went inside the stadium. We could then hear a little. They said it was their "state's" basketball team and it was an hour before the game was to start. They then taped the stadium for approx. 30 min. Then the players started to warm up. The stadium was packed, so the only thing you could hear was the cheering and murmurs of the crowd. They then taped the entire basketball game. It was hilarious. We kept on watching figuring that they would stop the camera and there would be something else, but there wasn't. We eventually started to fast forward. When the basketball game was over they changed scenes. There was someone standing in front of the camera again. We were relieved and thought that we were now going to learn a little about the students. No such luck. It was one of the basketball players and they interviewed him about why he liked to play in Siena. After the interview was over the scene changed once again. We were now outside at a large soccer field. We were watching the Siena soccer team practice. After a long time of watching them practice the camera was turned off and we thought it was all over. Once again we were wrong. This part was the weirdest of all. They taped a soccer game on TV. They didn't stick the tape into the VCR and tape it, no they actually taped the television. It was the entire game. Taped from the outside of the TV. We couldn't stop laughing. The entire thing was so strange. We only saw two of the students and that was in the very beginning. After that we didn't see anyone or hear anything it was just various sports games. The movie had to be over 4 hours long. We fast forwarded through most of it, stopping every once and awhile to see if anyone was saying anything. So, so strange. . .
I only had two classes at school today, so my friend Jorge and I went to Copenhagen for the afternoon. We wanted to visit our old language school and see the new exchange students that were currently attending. Before we went there though we decided to stop for some food. We went to a grocery store and picked up some stuff and on our way back walked pasted the queens house. We thought we'd sit there and eat our food that way we didn't eat it in front of the students. Just as we were about to leave the changing of the guard started. I figured we might as well stay and watch it. The guards are so funny. The walk like they are clenching their buttocks with all of their might, and they don't bend their knees. Their shoes are very strange and make a funny sound when they walk. They wear tall hats, and have a long sword and a big gun. Instead of thinking they are at all threatening though, they are just funny. Whenever they walk you have to start to giggle because it's so absurd.
When we were finished watching the guards we went to the language school and said hello to our old teacher and to the new students. It was neat talking to the teacher in Danish and having the other students not understand a word of what we were saying. It's hard to believe that we were exactly like those students seven months ago.
